From metres to litres: How Camira fabrics are weaving wool for water

By Emily Cooper on in News

Since the launch of one of our favourite fabrics ‘Synergy’ in 2016, Fabric Manufacturer Camira has partnered with Just a Drop to help deliver accessible, clean and safe water where it is needed most. For every metre of fabric sold from the Synergy collection, Camira makes a donation to a project in Kenya.

Beyond the incredible charity incentive to choose Synergy, it’s also a fantastic fabric for task and commercial soft seating. This hard-wearing New Zealand Woollen fabric is available in 75 shades, and is spun and woven, ecologically dyed and coloured, milled and pressed in Yorkshire’s textile heartland of Huddersfield.

Synergy’s predecessor fabric ‘Blazer’ (which is what all the chairs at the Love Your Workspace HQ are upholstered in) supported the endangered Hector’s Dolphin, with a contribution for every metre sold going to the New Zealand Whale and Dolphin Trust. This was matched by their wool partner Wools of New Zealand, recognising the provenance of the wool source, and together they raised £25,000.

Just a drop, camira, sustainable fabric, love your workspace

Around the world there are an estimated 750 million people without safe water and a staggering 2.5 billion without adequate sanitation. So for every metre of Synergy Camira sell, they make a donation to Just a Drop, in support of a water project in Kenya.

Their first project was building a water tank at Ikalaasa Primary School to provide clean water to 460 pupils. Camira’s donation was kindly matched by Wools of New Zealand, with additional contributions from their wider supply chain including yarn spinners Safil and textile finishers WT Johnson & Sons.

“After a few months of clearing the area, gathering supplies and building the framework, the water tank was completed in June 2016, and it was then a case of waiting for the rain. The December rains filled the tank with sufficient water and, following hygiene training, the children can now use the tank and benefit from regular access to clean water. “
